Privacy Policy
Last updated 7 October 2026
The short version
- We collect what it takes to run a local marketplace: your account, your listings, your deals, and how the app is used.
- We never sell your data, and we don't use advertising or third-party tracking.
- We don't collect your IP address, your device's location, or a device fingerprint.
- A home pickup address stays hidden from buyers until a deal is accepted and the meetup is near.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
Who we are
KNOCK ("KNOCK", "we", "us") is a local marketplace operated by Greg Seward, an individual based in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. KNOCK is currently an invite-only pilot. For anything in this policy, email admin@knocklocal.com.
This policy covers the KNOCK app at circle.knocklocal.app and this website, including the waitlist.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account: your email address, a password (stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider; we never see it), and the invite code you used.
- Profile: your display name, an optional profile photo, and your city.
- Pickup details: pickup addresses and saved pickup places (these may be your home), and the hours you are available to meet.
- Listings: photos, title, description, price, condition, category, private notes, and an optional minimum price.
- Deals: offers, amounts, meetup times and places, rescheduling requests, cancellations and their reasons, and, if you choose to answer, how you settled payment.
- Messages: what you write in the chat on a deal's meet screen.
- Ratings and reviews: scores and comments about the person you dealt with, and a separate score and comment about the meetup place.
- Reports and blocks: if you report or block someone, who, when, the reason and any note you add.
- Waitlist: your email address, an optional neighborhood, and the link you came from.
- Email you send us.
Information collected as you use KNOCK
We record app activity, such as app opens, listings viewed, search terms, the steps of a deal, and taps and time spent in the listing and offer screens. This is stored on our own systems and used only to run and improve KNOCK. It is never shared or sold.
We do not collect your IP address in this activity record, your device's location, or a device fingerprint, and we do not use advertising or third-party analytics.
When the app has an error, an error report is sent to our monitoring provider. It is set up to leave out your name, email address, cookies and the content of what you submitted.
Photos
Listing photos are stored at web addresses that anyone holding the link can open, so that listings can be shown. Some phones and cameras store the location where a photo was taken inside the photo file. Most phones remove it when you upload through a web browser, but not every device does. If that matters to you, turn off location for your camera before taking listing photos.
How we use it
- To run the marketplace: show listings, carry offers between buyers and sellers, schedule meetups, and complete deals.
- To keep people safe: hold back a home address until it is needed, review reports, and act on them.
- To send you email about your deals, your account and safety matters.
- To draft listing text and suggest a price with AI, when you ask the app to.
- To find and fix problems, and to understand how KNOCK is used so we can improve it.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.
What other members see
- Everyone: your display name, profile photo, city, rating average and count, number of completed deals, the date you joined, reviews written about you (with the reviewer's name), and your active listings.
- The other person in a deal: the offer, the meetup details and the chat. If your pickup place is marked as a private residence, a buyer sees only the general area until the deal is accepted and the meetup day arrives, or until you choose to share it sooner. If the deal is cancelled, the address is hidden again.
- Never shown to other members: your email address, your minimum price, your reports and blocks, ratings of meetup places and their comments, and your activity record. A person you block or report is not told.
Who else receives it
We use a small number of service providers to run KNOCK. They process data for us and only for this purpose.
| Provider | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase (servers in the US) | Account, profile, listings, photos, deals, messages, ratings, reports, activity | Database, sign-in, photo storage |
| Cloudflare | Web requests; waitlist entries | Hosting the app and this site; storing the waitlist |
| Resend | Your email address and the content of the email | Sending deal and account email |
| Sentry | Error reports, with personal details removed | Finding and fixing bugs |
| OpenRouter and xAI | Listing photos, your notes and item details, and your city | AI listing drafts and price suggestions, only when you use them |
| Google Maps | A meetup address or area | Showing the map on the meet screen and giving directions |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or to investigate fraud or a breach of our Terms. If KNOCK is ever transferred to a new owner, your information would go with it, under this policy.
How long we keep it
- Your account, profile, listings and messages: until you delete your account.
- Activity records: 24 months, then deleted automatically.
- Reports, blocks and moderation records: 24 months.
- Waitlist entries: until you are invited or ask us to remove you.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from the Account screen in the app. If you have a deal in progress, you can cancel it and delete in the same step.
When you delete your account, we delete your profile, notifications, the chat messages you sent, reviews written about you, and your unsold listings with their photos.
Some records are kept because the other person in a deal relies on them: completed deals, listings you sold and their photos, and reviews you wrote. These remain, shown as from a "Former member", without your name or photo.
Your activity record is de-identified 30 days after you delete your account: your account is replaced with a random stand-in. We wait 30 days so that a recent report about a deal can still be looked into.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile and listings, and withdraw offers, in the app.
- Turn off deal emails in the app. We still send email about your account and safety.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing admin@knocklocal.com. We will answer within 30 days.
Cookies and storage
The app keeps you signed in by storing a sign-in token in your browser. During the pilot, our access gate also sets a cookie to confirm you are invited. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our sites do not respond to "Do Not Track" signals, because they do not track you across other sites.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited by rules enforced on our servers, and only the people running KNOCK can reach records such as reports. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you as the law requires.
Age
KNOCK is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
