KNOCK LOCAL

Terms of Service

Last updated 7 October 2026

The short version

These Terms are an agreement between you and Greg Seward, an individual in Charleston, South Carolina, who operates KNOCK ("KNOCK", "we", "us"). They cover the KNOCK app at circle.knocklocal.app and this website. By creating an account or using KNOCK, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use KNOCK.

1. Who can use KNOCK

You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. KNOCK is currently an invite-only pilot: you need an invite code to join, each code is for one person, and we may end the pilot or change who can join at any time.

2. Your account

Give accurate information and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. One account per person. Tell us at admin@knocklocal.com if you think someone else has used it.

3. What KNOCK is, and is not

KNOCK is a place for people to list items, make offers and arrange to meet. Every sale is between the buyer and the seller. KNOCK is not a party to it, is not an agent for either side, and does not own, inspect, store or deliver any item.

We do not verify anyone's identity, background, or the items, photos or descriptions they post. A profile photo means it was uploaded, not that it was checked. Ratings and reviews are other members' opinions.

4. Payment

KNOCK does not process payments. Buyer and seller settle directly between themselves, in whatever way they agree. KNOCK charges no fees today. When you complete a deal in the app, KNOCK records that it was settled; it does not hold, move or guarantee any money. We will tell you before introducing any fee.

5. Buying and selling

6. Meeting in person

Meeting a stranger carries real risk, and you accept that risk when you choose to meet. KNOCK cannot supervise meetups. We recommend that you:

Report anyone who makes you feel unsafe using Report in the app, and use Block to stop further contact.

7. What you can't do

Don't use KNOCK to:

8. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post: listings, photos, messages, reviews. You give KNOCK a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, display and adapt it as needed to run KNOCK, for example resizing a photo or showing a review on a profile. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for content that stays after account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy.

Reviews must be honest and about your own deal. Don't post someone's address, phone number or other private details in a review or listing.

9. AI features

KNOCK can draft listing text and suggest a price from your photos. These are suggestions and may be wrong. Check them before you publish; you are responsible for your listing.

10. Reports and moderation

We review reports. We may remove content, take down a listing, cancel open deals, or suspend or remove an account if we believe these Terms were broken or someone's safety is at risk. Nothing happens automatically from a report: a person decides. We will usually tell you by email if we act on your account, but we don't say who reported you. If you think we got it wrong, email admin@knocklocal.com.

11. Licence to use the app

KNOCK, its name, design and software belong to us. We give you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose while you follow these Terms. You may not copy, modify, resell or reverse-engineer it, except where the law allows.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using KNOCK and delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if we must for legal reasons, or if we end the pilot or the service. Sections 3, 8, and 13 to 17 continue after your account ends.

13. Disclaimers

KNOCK is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that KNOCK will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we make no promise about any item, member, listing or meetup.

Disputes between members are between members. To the extent the law allows, you release KNOCK from claims arising out of your dealings with other members, including anything that happens at a meetup. If you are a California resident, you waive California Civil Code §1542, which says: "A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party."

14. Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, KNOCK is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, and KNOCK's total liability for any claim relating to KNOCK is limited to US$100. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

You agree to cover KNOCK's reasonable costs, including legal fees, from claims by others arising from your listings, your deals, or your breach of these Terms.

15. Disputes and arbitration

Please read this section carefully. It affects your legal rights.

Talk to us first. If you have a dispute with KNOCK, email admin@knocklocal.com describing it and what you want. We will try to resolve it informally within 30 days, and so will you before starting a claim.

Arbitration. If we can't resolve it, you and KNOCK agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or KNOCK will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, instead of in court. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. The arbitrator decides all questions, including whether a dispute must be arbitrated, and can award the same individual relief a court could. Fees follow the AAA Consumer Rules; KNOCK pays any costs those rules assign to the business. Arbitration may be held by video, by phone, on written submissions, or in Charleston County, South Carolina.

Exceptions. Either of us may bring an individual claim in small-claims court if it qualifies. Either of us may ask a court to stop infringement of intellectual property.

No class actions. You and KNOCK may bring claims only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding, and you and KNOCK waive any right to a jury trial. If this class-action waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim goes to court, not to arbitration, and the rest of this section still applies.

You can opt out. You can reject this arbitration agreement by emailing admin@knocklocal.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, with your name, the email on your account, and a statement that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect anything else in these Terms.

Changes. If we change this section, the change won't apply to a dispute we already knew about.

16. Governing law and courts

South Carolina law governs these Terms, apart from its conflict-of-law rules, and the Federal Arbitration Act governs section 15. Any claim that is not arbitrated will be brought only in the state or federal courts in Charleston County, South Carolina.
